Crabtree Falls is a amazing 70 foot waterfall in western North Carolina. Trail Parking is located at milepost 339.5 on the Blue Ridge Parkway just north of Asheville, North Carolina. The moderate two mile loop trail covers a wide variety of terrains with a few steep climbs along the way. We timed our visit perfectly to see lots of wildflowers and mountain laurel in bloom. It had been years since our last time out here and with the view around each bend, we wondered why it had taken us so long to return. The trail winds around huge trees, the awe-inspiring falls, picturesque vignettes along the way, highlighted by a secret pool down one trail and accented by the rocks that had fallen, framing and forming caves. Close to the end of the loop, we pass the old amphitheater that must have seen amazing performances in its day…out of place, yet perfect as nature works to reclaim it. Definitely an adventure to make the time for as it almost feels like you are transported to some tropical rainforest when you see the falls.
