Graveyard Fields in Fall – Landscape and Nature Photography in Western North Carolina

Graveyard Fields is a popular place off the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville, NC to hike, explore, camp and visit.  The valley’s name could have come from fallen tree stumps that once covered with moss and lichen resemble gravestones.  It is a special place – the feel is unlike anywhere else.  It is quiet and serene but has a mysterious nature.  The area was ravaged by fires when it was being logged in the early 1900s.  The fires burned so hot that even now plants have trouble growing there.

Here are few images from a visit to Graveyard fields in fall.  The final shot is overlooking the valley from the road going up to Black Balsam.
