Sarah and Wade were a blast to work with – literally, with their wedding day shoot wrapping with us standing in the rain with the Lake Lure fireworks exploding in the background…truly spectacular. I could not stop smiling that day even when I was totally exhausted and drenched for the drive home!! The three of us had a great time playing on their wedding day and during their Asheville engagement session, so I have lots of favorites to share from those along with wedding day photos below.
Sarah and Wade chose the Gardens at the 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa for their intimate wedding celebration. As the weather moved in before the ceremony, Inn staff ready and waiting for the call to be made if we were going for an outdoor ceremony or not. The rain poured…starting the moment I talked the ladies into venturing across the street towards the lake. Luckily I had three umbrellas in my gear and was able to get them back across without getting drenched. My theory is weather was saving that spot for the couple after they were married – theory reinforced by the sky clearing moments before the ceremony was to begin and rain holding off until after the portraits were captured. 🙂
In Sarah’s words: “After a day of sunshine, it clouded up an hour before the ceremony and started pouring…while we were outside taking picture (bless you for your umbrellas!). I am still amazed at how it stopped raining in time to get everything dry for the ceremony to start on time! The weather cleared long enough for our ceremony and pictures. During the reception, it poured for the vast majority of the time but stopped at the very end—in time for the town of Lake Lure to shoot off their 4th of July fireworks. I don’t know what Wade & I did right, but we’ll take it!” Below the images, Sarah shares more of their sweet story.
Mandy with An English Flower Cottage designed the lovely and colorful floral. Paula, with the Lake Lure Inn, was the coordinator that helped make it all fall into place. Catering was by the Lake Lure Inn as well; they never disappoint with their food! Dana Papesh made their beautiful cake, and they purchased a groom’s ice cream cake at Ingles to have Wade’s request to have cake and ice cream! (Great call, Wade!) Their dearest family and friends traveled from all over to be there, including the minister coming up from their hometown in Macon, GA, and the groom’s best friend/best man flying in from overseas. Ruben Orengo led the string duo and is always a pleasure to hear play! The shoes for bride, mom and sister were all TOM’s – so they were not only comfortable, they were also giving back since TOM’s gives a pair to the needy for each pair of shoes purchased.
Here are *some* of my favorites from their engagement session and from their wedding day photos:
Sarah and Wade had been together for years, but as she and I say often, everything happens for a reason. Here is what she had to share about their story: “Wade and I like to joke that our arguments last for about 4 years and then we both cave. We dated for more than four years before we got engaged. About two years into our relationship, we were stuck at an impasse. Wade wanted me to move in with him before we got engaged; I wanted to get engaged before I moved in with him. So we stayed in that same tug-of-war for two years…until I told him mid-January 2013 that I was tired of spending money for rent and utilities at my house when I had been spending the majority of my time at his house dog-sitting (he was traveling and gone for weeks at a time). A week later, when we were in Atlanta to see The Producers, he popped the question before we headed out for dinner…apparently both sets of parents knew. He had actually been working with the jeweler for several weeks designing a ring. Thus I won the argument and, a few weeks shy of six months later, we got married!
I am glad the timing worked as it did. I believe that everything happens for a reason at a certain time. Had everything not occurred as it did, I don’t know if we would have chosen the Lake Lure Inn as our wedding venue. If we hadn’t chosen the Lake Lure Inn, we most definitely would not have had you do our pictures. It was fate…or something like that… 🙂 ”
Loved being their photographer and cannot wait to get another chance to play with them as we capture more over the years!! Congrats and best wishes to a couple that I feel lucky to have met!! Thank you to the new Mr. and Mrs.!!
