Kallie and Kenny’s Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens Destination Wedding

Kallie and Kenny were wed in the white garden of the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden in Belmont, North Carolina.  The bride and groom are both in the Navy, and from the first time we spoke, the one shot they knew they had to have was a recreation of the famous ‘Sailor’s Kiss’ photo in their wedding regalia.  (With them both being sailors…does that make it the ‘Sailors’ kiss’ or the ‘Sailors Kiss’?  I digress…)

We were excited to be Kallie and Kenny’s wedding studio, capturing the wedding day as well as their engagement photos at the gardens a few months before the wedding – if you are curious, you can see images from that session HERE.  It always makes it so much more fun for my couples when we have gotten to work together (especially when we get to play at their fabulous wedding venue!!) before the big day.  I highly recommend working an engagement session into your photography package to give you that opportunity.  It is an honor to photograph two people who give so much for their country, and it is always a privilege to work with military couples.  We are proud to offer military discounts on our photo and video services.

It was a perfect early September morning with the sun rising as everyone gathered to get ready in the dew covered gardens.  We were excited to get to work with Occasions by Emily, WNC Video Productions, and a Bride’s DJ – all based in Asheville, NC – for this Charlotte area destination wedding.  Occasions by Emily was the floral designer and the coordinator for the event.  Kallie’s brave mom made the 5 layer, fondant covered masterpiece – that cake was the turning point that has her baking lots of amazing cakes these days.  Kallie chose red and black as her wedding colors, and Kenny and two of his groomsmen wore their Navy dress blues which are primarily black and red.  The other groomsmen and ring bearer wore classic black tuxes.  The bride wore a striking red sash tied around her gown adorned with a brooch, carried the colors through and her gorgeous red shoes with black bows.  The reds and blacks in the floral arrangements were accented by the white and greens in the gardens carried over in the bouquets and decor in in the reception.  Red and white rose petals lined the garden aisle ready for her grand entrance.  The bridesmaids were dressed in sweet black dresses, with the maid of honor and matron of honor adding red glittery flowers to their dresses.  The flower girls/jr bridesmaids wore white and black dresses with red sashes tied in bows on the back.  The final touches were added as everyone got ready for the ceremony.

Their ceremony began and everyone in attendance was overjoyed to be there for such a special moment.  When they were announced and the minister told Kenny he could kiss his bride, they had the dj play “Are you going to kiss me or not?” by Thompson Square before they kissed and exited to the song playing.  Love when my couples do something different and truly personal like that!!  We took some time in the gardens for family and wedding party photos before heading inside for them to be announced and have their first dance.  Being a morning wedding, the catered breakfast buffet could not have been more perfect.  After they ate and caught their breath, we headed back outside to take some photos of just the couple.  LOVE what we captured on our little walk!!  We headed back inside for some great dancing – and highly entertaining moves by the groom especially – then the bouquet was tossed and the garter was thrown, and bubbles were handed out as they prepared to leave.  The Rolls Royce with the custom tag with their last name was an awesome idea that makes for great photos/video and the tag is a great keepsake for them to keep!

Here are some of my favorite photos from their day:

Congratulations to Kallie and Kenny!!  We wish you the best!!
